Platforms For Success Issue 13
Sorry it been a while.....
ACRONYMS have become extremely popular with the advent of texting and in some cases quite humorous these days.
I can specifically think of the ones for " those of a certain age " such as BTW , which instead of its usual meaning of By The Way , it could mean Bring The Wheelchair ! .... OR TTYL Talk to you louder.
" Your Killing me Smalls. "
Acronyms can be powerful tools to assist in memory if they are used correctly. Recently I found one that actually made a deeply profound impact on my life and I think will make one on yours also.... but I digress....
One time many years ago a very wonderful English teacher of mine said to our literature class " the only reason people use profanity is because they are too ignorant not to use proper words " That really impacted me and my respect for language and its use. Have you ever seen or been in a situation where someone was corrected and spoken to in a way where they were essentially told " go take a hike " and the way it was expressed, it seemed they would actually enjoy the ride !
Today, we hear often about reading levels or lack of reading levels.... Should we care ? In Western culture it is quite apparent that "dumbing down " is the predominant path forward.
Should we resist this trend ? If so, how ?
Here are some suggestions.
1. Make a legitimate effort to have actual dialog with people face to face. We have heard " do not forsake the assembling of yourselves " I think the saddest thing I see is when a family is out to dinner and everyone is one their phone .... I mean like ... are you kidding.
2. Turn off ALL electronic devices and " be still " and know that He is God .
3. READ. I am going to share something I want you to really think on .... IF there is a word you do not understand , there is a concept in this life that you are unaware even exists " It's like there's another room in your home you have never visited. Here's an example, if I said the sunrise is ephemeral, would you understand something more about the sunrise that you did not know before ? Jesus said " He who hears my words and does not heed them, is like one who looks in the mirror and afterwards forgets what he looks like " How can we obey his words if we do not understand them.
The legendary writer Mark Twain is famous for his many quotes. One is this " the man who does not read has no advantage over the man who cannot read "
4. Memorize . " Your WORD have I hid in my heart" " Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path "
I want to teach you something now which is just a simple building block, but it is easy to remember and SUPER POWERFUL !
F E A R. Memorize this. Fear is False Evidence Appearing Real. REPEAT . False Evidence Appearing Real . It is NOT TRUE. IT is False Evidence Appearing Real. But it is NOT !!
" We all have fear, it really just a question of how we handle it that matters " Mark Twain
Remember, God has NOT given us a Spirit of FEAR, but of power, love, and soundness.,
" The two most important days of your life are the day you were born and the day you find out why " Mark Twain.

Words are surely important. I am the reader I am today because of my father. My father bought me a book for my 21st birthday and up until that time I read out of obligation. English lit was probably my best subject in school but it didn’t make me an avid reader. When my father handed me the gift I thought very little of it but something told me, “you should read it for the sake of your dad.” I read it and I loved it. When I put that book down I had to have another. It sparked something in me. The experiences of the author just implanted so much wisdom. I wanted more. I’ve been a reader ever since. I aspire by the end of my life to have written over 100 books.
